Best known for it’s place in history as a popular tourist destination, the Borough of Gettysburg hired TCA to help maintain the downtown as an attractive, functional place for both residents and visitors. Starting with the streetscapes of the Borough’s four main streets, TCA established Design Guidelines for the elements that best define a comfortable and inviting corridor: street trees, lighting, pedestrian amenities, a compelling mix of uses, and buildings designed to compliment the Borough’s extensive historic district. Building height, parking location, gateways, and signage were also addressed. The Streetscape Enhancement Overlay District was such success that the Borough decided to apply it across it’s nonresidential districts.
