A remnant of the early iron making industry in Pennsylvania, Historic Joanna Furnace operated from 1791 until the late 1890’s. Donated by Bethlehem Steel to the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association in 1976, and designated on the National Register of Historic Places, TCA was hired in 1995 to prepare a Master Plan for the site, and assist the Historical Association to obtain grants for site restoration projects. Master Plan improvements included a new road access, a visitor’s center, parking facilities, trail planning, stormwater management, and wayfinding signage. Ongoing restoration work continues to improve the public’s enjoyment of the site.
